Cunningham Report Week 1
Hi Friends,
A modest crowd broke away from the
traditional Homecoming activities last Sunday to see the Wildcat's
homeopener against Colgate. Thanks to all who were there to see a great
game, and to those who took a moment to visit Cindy in the Merchandise Booth
and renew your Friends memberships for the season.
Holy Goalie, Batman!
Those in attendance Sunday were treated
to a duel between our freshman netminder, Kaley Herman, and a freshman from
Colgate, Lisa Plenderleith, playing in her first collegiate game. Although
UNH clearly dominated on the shot clock and the ice, the two teams played
scoreless hockey until the 18th minute of the third period. As the result of
a sweet play on an offensive zone faceoff, orchestrated by Kelly Paton, and
assisted by Kacey Bellamy and Marty Garland, Sam Faber was able to to tuck
the puck behind Plenderleith. The Colgate goalie's effort Sunday was enough
to earn USCHO Defender of the Week honors, but Kaley Herman walked away with
her second win in as many starts, and her first career shutout. Sam and
Kaley were recognized by Hockey East as Weekly Top Performers for their
effort. There was a lot of buzz in the stands about this year's team - every
player is looking solid, the youngsters are dynamic, and we are excited for
more! Congrats to the 'Cats on snagging a win from a tough opponent!
Look Who's Back
In addition to yours truly and a few
regular alumni, there were some other familiar faces in the stands. In
hatless obscurity, Brit Busa's mom, Heather, watched the game unnoticed by
her Litter Box fans until the final buzzerI Too hot for the hat, she
said! Heather was not alone though, as she sat in close proximity to '07
grads, daughter Brit and Jackie Wedster. I caught up to them between periods
as they chatted with Lindsay Hansen '06, and Annie Fahlenbock '03. It's
great to see everyone!
Photo Ops
This year, Friends of Women's Hockey is
proud to announce the development of a photo webpage exclusively for UNH
Women's Hockey and their activities! A collaberation between President Burt
and Photographer Tara Lenarth, the site will allow Friends and family access
to the photos Tara takes at games and other hockey related activities.
Bookmark the link and check it often for new and exciting shots of 'Cats and
their fans in action!
Coach's Corner Comeback
Another popular feature from last
year, Phil Kincade's Coach's Corner, a weekly video segment with Coach
McCloskey and / or members of the coaching staff and team, will be back soon
with a different approach. Instead of viewing the video segments from the
online version of the local paper, Foster's Daily Democrat, Phil is in the
process of redesigning his UNH Women's Hockey site, and will feature more
interactive stories as well as statistics. Here is your link to even more
UNH Women's Hockey than last year!

I will also direct you from my e-mails to any stories and features I come
across, so none of our distant Friends and families will miss out! New
parents - you may want to also bookmark the local paper's websites, as they
provide good coverage of games. Foster's Daily democrat

Terriers on the way
BU is headed to Durham for a 2 PM game
this Sunday, October 21. The Terriers have strengthened their squad with a
few good rookies, and have had close games against both Minnesota and
Mercyhurst backboned by more strong goaltending. Gone are the days when the
outcome of a game could be taken for granted, so be sure to get over to the
Whit to support your UNH Wildcats! If you're too far to make it to Durham,
don't forget that you can stream the game from the UNH Website at
UNHwildcats.TV
See you on Sunday, and as always, GO
'CATS!
